The Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR), known as “America’s Seed Fund,” provides nondilutive grants to small businesses to help them develop and commercialize technology innovations. The most recent Department of Energy (DOE) solicitation closed on February 23, 2023.

The Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) provides technical and financial assistance for energy efficiency upgrades for low-income households, reducing energy costs and improving health and safety. Recently, WAP received a major boost in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which increased funding for the program by $3.5 billion.

This Veterans Day, CEBN is highlighting resources available for veterans to get their start in clean energy or bolster their existing businesses. With recent federal investments through the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, clean energy is a booming sector expected to grow exponentially in the coming years, making this an excellent time to pursue a career in clean energy!

The SBIR and STTR Extension Act of 2022  includes a three-year extension of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, as well as reforms; these include stricter reporting and scrutiny for foreign-linked firms and “experienced” businesses that have won more than 50 awards. The Clean Energy Business Network and Cleantech Leaders Roundtable were proud to host the inaugural cohort of Mária Telkes Fellows in DC in celebration of the sixth annual National Clean Energy Week. The fellows joined CEBN staff in meetings with two U.S. Senate Committees, the Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Office, and the White House Office of Domestic Climate Policy.
