The main goal of the S-STEM program is to enable low-income students with academic ability, talent or potential to pursue successful careers in promising STEM fields. Ultimately, the S-STEM program seeks to increase the number of academically promising low-income students who graduate with a S-STEM eligible degree and contribute to the American innovation economy with their STEM knowledge. Recognizing that financial aid alone cannot increase retention and graduation in STEM, the program provides awards to institutions of higher education (IHEs) not only to fund scholarships, but also to adapt, implement, and study evidence-based curricular and co-curricular [1] activities that have been shown to be effective supporting recruitment, retention, transfer (if appropriate), student success, academic/career pathways, and graduation in STEM.

Agriculture and Food Research Initiative Competitive Grants Program Foundational and Applied Science Program

The AFRI Foundational and Applied Science Program supports grants in six AFRI priority areas to advance knowledge in both fundamental and applied sciences important to agriculture. The six priority areas are: Plant Health and Production and Plant Products; Animal Health and Production and Animal Products; Food Safety, Nutrition, and Health; Bioenergy, Natural Resources, and Environment; Agriculture Systems and Technology; and Agriculture Economics and Rural Communities. Future of Semiconductors

The program seeks to fund research as well as education and workforce development to improve science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education at the nation’s institutions of higher education, spanning two-year colleges and four-year universities including the minority-serving institutions with a goal to advance semiconductor design and manufacturing. NSF encourages bold, potentially transformative activities that address future semiconductor design and manufacturing challenges as well as shortages in the skilled scientists, engineers, and technician workforce. This solicitation encourages proposers to take a holistic perspective on workforce development, considering the participation of the full spectrum of diverse talent in STEM career paths, advanced technologies, and research capabilities. All proposals must include education and workforce development plans integrated with the proposed research activities. This solicitation seeks proposals to perform fundamental research to enable a new paradigm in semiconductor capabilities through research grants focused on co-design approaches. Teams of all sizes, with a minimum of a PI and a co-PI, are encouraged.

Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) Assistance for the Adoption of the Latest and Zero Building Energy Codes

The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) provides up to $1 billion for States and units of local government with the authority to adopt building energy codes to adopt and implement the latest building energy codes, zero energy building codes, or equivalent codes or standards.

This opportunity assists eligible entities in further decarbonizing their buildings through the adoption of the latest national model building energy codes, zero energy codes, other codes that deliver equivalent or greater energy savings, including innovative approaches to decarbonize existing buildings through certain measurable and enforceable requirements. The IRA is unprecedented in its opportunity to support sustainable change at the State and local level with respect to advancing the energy efficiency of new, renovated, and existing buildings. DOE is particularly interested in supporting States and local governments in implementing local capacity building, multi-year investments in workforce and education, and long-term improvements in building energy codes through multi-cycle adoption and building performance standards (BPS).

FY24 Department of Navy (DON) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education and Workforce Program

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) is interested in receiving a broad range of proposals for augmenting existing and/or developing innovative solutions that directly maintain, and/or cultivate a diverse, world-class Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) workforce to maintain the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps’ technological superiority. The goal of proposed efforts must provide solutions that establish, build, and/or maintain STEM educational pathways of U.S. citizens directly relevant to the needs of Department of Navy’s (DON) current and future workforce. As the capacity of the DON Science and Technology (S&T) workforce is interconnected with the STEM education system, DON recognizes the need to support efforts that can jointly improve STEM student outcomes and align educational and outreach efforts with Naval S&T current and future workforce needs.

This announcement explicitly encourages programs that improve the capacity of education systems and communities to create impactful STEM educational experiences for students of all ages and the naval related workforce. Programs must aim to increase engagement in naval relevant STEM, and enhance the corresponding skills, knowledge, and abilities of participants. ONR encourages applicants to utilize current STEM educational research for informing program design and advancing STEM careers and opportunities of naval relevance.

Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Storage Validation and Testing program

Projects selected under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Storage Validation and Testing program will develop new and expanded carbon storage projects through FECM’s Carbon Storage Assurance Facility Enterprise (CarbonSAFE) Initiative, each with the capacity to store 50 or more million metric tons of CO2 over a 30-year period. Multiple openings of this funding opportunity allow for the continuous development of commercial-scale carbon storage infrastructure, with projects focusing on feasibility determination, detailed site characterization, planning, permitting, and construction stages of project development.

DOE’s Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) program hereby announces its interest in receiving applications for Building EPSCoR-State/DOE-National Laboratory Partnerships. These partnerships advance the understanding of the physical world by supporting fundamental, early-stage energy research collaborations with DOE National Laboratories. Participation by undergraduate students, graduate students, or postdoctoral fellows is required. Solar Energy Evolution and Diffusion Studies 4 (SEEDS 4)

This FOA is being issued by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) to invest in innovative social science research that generates actionable insights to improve large-scale solar (LSS) siting processes and outcomes for host communities—particularly those that are disadvantaged—and the solar industry. This funding opportunity will support research on the social dimensions of siting LSS facilities that are 1 MWdc or larger and located on private land. LSS facilities may or may not include storage. The goal of this FOA is to generate actionable insights that can guide solar energy developers and owner/operators, local, state, federal, and Tribal governments, landowners, community organizations, and other stakeholders to improve LSS siting processes and outcomes for host communities and the solar industry.

Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office FOA to Advance the National Clean Hydrogen Strategy

This FOA supports the vision outlined in the U.S. National Clean Hydrogen
Strategy and Roadmap of affordable clean hydrogen for a net-zero carbon
future and a sustainable, resilient, and equitable economy. It targets five topics
of interest critical to enabling increased adoption of clean hydrogen technologies
across sectors, particularly in medium- and heavy-duty (MD/HD) vehicles and

FY23 BIL Electric Drive Vehicle Battery Recycling and Second Life Applications

This FOA seeks applications to address the recycling of EV batteries to support
the establishment of a robust domestic critical materials supply chain. The
activities funded under this FOA include projects that reduce the costs
associated with the transport, disassembly, and preprocessing of EOL EV
batteries for battery recycling and that demonstrate the recycling of plastic EV
battery accessory components. These Topic Areas will support the development
of a domestic critical materials supply chain by ensuring that EV battery recycling
is a financially viable endeavor.

Women and Minorities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Fields Program

The Women and Minorities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Fields Grant Program is a competitive grants program supporting research and extension projects that will increase — to the maximum extent practicable — participation by rural women and underrepresented minorities from rural areas in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

NIFA intends this program to address educational needs within broadly defined areas of food and agricultural sciences. Applications recommended for funding must highlight and emphasize the development of a competent and qualified workforce in the food and agricultural sciences. WAMS-funded projects improve the economic health and viability of rural communities by developing research and extension initiatives that focus on new and emerging employment opportunities in STEM occupations. Projects that contribute to the economic viability of rural communities are also encouraged.
